Tracy Morgan a hilarious american actor and comedian who is best known for his role in Saturday Night Live & 30 Rock. Mr. Morgan has also been in countless appearances on television since 1992, and has played rolls in films we know and love such as 2010’s Cop Out, 2006’s Totally Awesome and 2001’s 30 Years to Life. This man has single handedly helped us experience most all the feelings on the feeling chart and we are grateful for it.
So for us here at Golden West Billiards it was a great pleasure to help manufacture the perfect billiard table for Mr. Morgan and his Family. After a little back and fort this brushed aluminum beauty, with bright orange championship felt and deep blue LED lightings was born and now resides in Mr. Morgans game room.

Brunswick was founded by John Moses Brunswick who was an immigrated from Switzerland at the age of 15. In 1845 he opened J.M. Brunswick Manufacturing Company in Cincinnati, Ohio.
His company objective was initially to make carriages but soon after opening his machine shop he found that making billiard tables would produce a great deal of profit, specially since at the time the best billiard tables where imported from England.
After 29 years of commercial success the Brunswick company merged with competitor Great Western Billiard Manufactory owned by Julius Balke and became J.M. Brunswick & Balke Company.
The company has gone on to manufacture all sorts of things and still exists today! Making it the oldest and largest manufacturer of recreation and leisure-time products in the United States.
Even though Brunswick and Balke Co. stopped producing pool/billiard tables they gracefully left in our history works-of-art which are now sought after by antique collectors all over the world. The tables are intricate and elaborate. Recognized as status symbols both then and now. There was no detail spared when producing the tables this greatly enhanced Brunswick’s reputation for fine craftsmanship.
As you can imagine these tables are very rare but when you take a tour at Golden West Billiards you can ask to see first hand one of this handsomely inlaid tables. The Novelty, inlaid with many different colors, made up from California laurel (a hardwood tree native to coastal forests of California), Burl Ash (a wood prized for it’s beauty and rarity), French Walnut (a european wood known for its gold coloring), Birds-Eye Maple (called that because of the figures in the wood), Mahogany (recognized for its reddish brown color), Rosewood (gives of a strong sweet smell for years after its cut), Tulipwood (this high-quality wood is very lovely and dense), and Ebony (a black hardwood which looks beautiful when polished).
It is supplied with the finest of Vermont Slate bed at 11/8″ thick, the slates make for a great playing table. The table is fitted with Tensite J9 rails which are still considered to be superior to rubber cushions on the market today. It’s covered with a beautiful blue-green Simonis Cloth. The table has chalk cups under the head of the foot rail. The two outside rail bolts are covered chased bronze rosettes. It truly is a sight to see!
What is chalk and where did chalk come from?
I remember being in elementary school asking my mom what chalk is made out of and she proceeded to tell me it was made out of ‘Calx’ which is the Latin word for limestone. Yes, Chalk comes from limestone. The cool thing about chalk is that it wasn’t made with in our life time, chalk today was created over 100 million years ago! Chalk is actually considered a porous sedimentary rock that is made naturally deep under the sea out of accumulating organic skeletons and shells. That will give you something to think about the next time you grab a piece of chalk.
Is cue-chalk the same as chalk-board-chalk?
No, chalkboard chalk and billiard chalk are two different things. Even though the thought might cross your mind. The modern billiard chalk was invented by Pro straight rail player William A. Spinks and chemist William Hoskins back in 1897. They worked together and came up with the perfect mix of silica, aluminum oxide, dye and glue.
Spinks and Hoskins found that when adding chalk to their cue-tip it would increase adhesion and decrees cue slip on stroke. Originally the most common chalk colors where green and blue-green but now there are all sorts of colors for you to choose from. The funny thing is that chalk wasn’t always square it was once round in shape. The reason it had to be made square was that after chalking their cue the player would put down the chalk and it would end up rolling away!
Many pro-players agree that different brand chalk varies in quality and significantly affect game play. You’ll just have to find out for yourself what type of chalk you prefer and go from there. Here is a youtube link that might help you decide.

Things To Keep in Mind:

-Soft tip provide more ball control they also increase the ability for more english but they require more maintenance.

Vegetable Tanned Leather:
Vegetable tanned leather is tanned using tanning and other ingredients found in vegetable matter, such as tree bark, wood, leaves, fruit and roots. The result in color depends on the mixture of ingredients and the color of the hide.
About Chrome Tanning:
Chrome tanned leather was created back in the mid 1800th century. The tanning is done with chromium sulfate and other chromium salts. Making it more supple and pliable than vegetable tanned leather. This process also aids with discoloration and shape loss.
Standard Leather Tips
*Elk Master Tips: Are constructed from pressed mineral-tanned leather producing a tip that will last a long time and hold its shape. Commonly identified by its bright blue appearance.
*Triumph Tips: Are specially treated with vegetable tanned oak leather. They are created from the thickest part of each hide, the outcome is a coarse grain and are recognized as a medium-hard tip.
*Le-Pro Tips: They go through an extensive tanning process. The are specially treated with vegetable tanned oak leather and coated with a protective layer that seals and preserves the leather. Le-Pro tips are rated hard on the density scale.
*Triangle Tips: Are chrome-tanned leather, then pressed to create a thick firm pool cue tip with coarse grain. Triangle tips are rated hard on the density scale.
Layered Leather Tips
*Emerald Tips: Are made from recycled pig leather splits, layered and go through a vacuum laminated process with water based adhesive for maximum durability. They are very popular and known to be the most economic and environmentally friendly laminated cue tips on the market today. Emerald tips are rated medium on the density scale.
Win Tips: Are genuine pig skin leather, laminated, medium hard tips.
*Pig Tips: Manufactured by Tiger Products, this medium hard multi-layer cue tip made out of five layers of pig leather treated naturally. Laminated for quality and durability.
Shark Tips: Are not made out of shark skin they are in fact made out of 5 layers of premium leather, are laminated, medium tips.
*Tiger Tips: Are made from 11 layers of 2 types of treated pig skin using the natural characteristics of the leather to achieve better consistency and control. Tiger tips are rated hard on the density scale.
*Everest Tips: Made from the finest pig skin, each of the 10 layer is carefully chosen and laminated. This tip shapes liked a hard tip, but hits like a medium tip and has control of a soft tip. It’s truly a multi-purpose cue tip.
*Sniper Tips: Tiger Sniper cue tips are laminated and made from under ground tanned boar hide. Treated slowly and without any chemical, each hide takes a year average to tan completely.
Zan Tips: Are high quality laminated leather composed of eight or nine layers of pig and hog leather. Depending on the hardness chosen different leathers are used, giving Zan tips the right stiffness and fluidity. These cue tips are designed to hold chalk exceptionally well. Zan has a premiere series: soft (9 layers), hybrid max (8 layers), and grip hard (9 layers). Standard Series: Zan Soft (8 layers), Zan Medium (8 layers), and Zan Hard (8 layers).
Kamui Tips: have become some of the most popular cue tips among pro-players all over the world. These cue tips are imported from Japan and are 100% Japanese pig leather. The tips go through a rigorous moisture proof tanning process giving them the color and making them humidity resistant. Available in super soft, soft, medium, and hard.
